Weather conditions for 1997 were warmer than past years, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 43 deg.F. Snow cover was minimal. Waters of Lake Michigan and Macatawa were open, and weather was cloudy. Twenty three observers in 9 parties spent 49.85 hours and 438 miles on the count.
