The Owashtanong Islands Audubon Society is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We offer educational and informative lectures and fellowship at our meetings held 7:30 PM on the third Tuesday of the month -- September through May -- at:

United Methodist Church of the Dunes
 717 Sheldon

Grand Haven, MI

This year's program schedule includes topics for all ages and interests. We welcome all visitors to our presentations.

Our Mission:

bulletProvide stewardship of local Grand River island wildlife sanctuaries owned by the Michigan Audubon Society;
bulletAchieve, through education, public recognition of the value and need for protecting and preserving wildlife, plants, soil, water and other natural resources, as well as an understanding of their interdependence;
bulletPromote an interest in our native birds and their habitat because of their great economic, cultural and recreational value; and
bulletAid the Michigan Audubon Society in its study, conservation and research efforts.

Birding field trips are offered year round by volunteer leaders from the membership. Most trips concentrate on local birding areas such as the Lake Michigan shore, Allegan State Game Area, and Muskegon Wastewater Plant. Field trip reports are published in the far flowing water. For an example report, click here. A cumulative list of birds observed on the field trips, the "OIAS Life List" is maintained.
