The Ottawa County Christmas Bird Count (CBR) area is centered near Borculo, Michigan and includes Port Sheldon and the upper part of Lake Macatawa, both bays of Lake Michigan. During years of ice accumulation on Lake Macatawa, many Common Mergansers will converge on the open water near the Holland BPW's warm water outfall. Other features of the count area are diverse habitats ranging from city and suburban feeders to open farmland and deciduous forest.
